Two deaths reported at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

Two fatal motorcycle accidents were reported by the police in connection with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally were, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety’s August 13 traffic information.

Sixty-one-year-old Waterford, Wisconsin resident Magnus Unser, Jr. was riding his motorcycle just east of Newell when a van pulled into his lane, instantly killing him. Unser was wearing a helmet, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol has ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.

55-year-old Richmond Hills, Texas local John Peebles was heading north on Vanocker Canyon Road when his motorcycle veered off the roadway as he was making a turn  and fell into a ditch, killing him after the motorcycle rolled, throwing him from the bike. Peebles was also wearing a helmet like Unser.

Police are investigating both cases.
