Motorcycle victim of accident on Highway 51 identified

An 86-year-old man was injured after his motorcycle crashed near Merrill the afternoon of May 26.

Traffic was shut down between Merrill and Tomahawk after a one motorcycle accident happened at around 1 p.m. According to reports, the accident occurred when the motorcycle of Leonard Benson lost control on Highway 51 and veered into the median lane, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Before medical crews arrived, first-aid was given to Benson by off-duty medical personnel who were present at the accident scene. North and southbound traffic was shut down by crews to give way for a helicopter to pick up the injured motorcyclist.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and other details were not yet available.
