September a deadly month for motorcyclists

More Wisconsin motorists died last month than at this time last year, data from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation shows. A total of 79 people died on Wisconsin roads in September 2012, which is 30 more than in September 2011 and 20 more than the fire-year average.

According to WSAW, 480 motorists have been killed in accidents in Wisconsin, including 85 motorcyclists and 13 motorcycle passengers. The director of the Bureau of Transportation Safety says fatal motorcycle accidents are on the rise.

Officials urge motorcyclists to wear helmets when riding, as most of the deaths and serious injuries were caused by not wearing protective gear.
