State wants older motorcyclists to seek retraining

It has been shown that as many motorcyclists age, their skills on their bikes deteriorate. Men over the age of 40 have been involved in more motorcycle accidents than any other demographic in the past year. Nearly a third of the fatal crashes from last year involved alcohol. In almost every fatal motorcycle accident, the driver was not wearing a helmet

It seems as though many older riders are not aware to changes to the rules of the road that have been made between when they got their motorcycle licenses and today. Because of these unsettling statistics, the state is urging older riders to submit to motorcycle safety courses.

There are multiple levels available to help re-educate motorcyclists on what kinds of things to look for to keep themselves safe. An advanced course is being offered by the Madison Area Technical College.
