Truck and motorcycle collide, Hammond woman dies

A 47-year-old Hammond woman passed away on Sunday morning after the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with a pickup truck.

The motorcycle accident happened around 8 p.m. on Saturday night in Martell Township. The woman was riding on the back of a motorcycle being operated by a 48-year-old man. The two were traveling north on 650th Street when they were struck by a southbound pickup truck attempting to turn east on a cross street.

Both individuals on the motorcycle became airborne as a result of the collision. They were both taken to a hospital by helicopter, and the woman died in the early morning hours of Sunday. The truck driver was uninjured in the collision. The two occupants on the motorcycle were wearing helmets when they were struck.
