Motorcycle fatalities rise in 2010

Twelve people have died in the last three years in Rock County as the result of motorcycle accidents. After several motorcycle-related memorial day accidents, professionals wrote out a press release regarding the high number of recent motorcycle accidents involving alcohol. The press release also noted the importance of wearing a helmet whenever you are operating a motorcycle, even though it is not required by law in the state of Wisconsin. According to data from the Rock County coroner’s office, of the 12 accidents that occurred in the county over the past three years, only one of the victims was wearing a helmet.

The coroner’s press release urged the motorcycle community to always wear a helmet. They claim that so far this year, there have already been five motorcycle deaths even though motorcycle season has just begun, indicating an upward trend in motorcycle accidents and deaths. The report also indicated that it is important for motorcyclists to always use headlights while driving as well as any other means that may make them more visible to other motorists.
